This Ash Wednesday several churches are coming together along with the Atchison Community Choir, directed by our own Marta Myers. Pastor Cyd and worship team, will lead the service which will include the traditional response of receiving ashes. The imposition of ashes on the forehead (or alternately on back of hand) dating from the 11th century, is a reminder of our human fragility. We have come from dust and when we die our bodies will return to the dust of the earth, “From dust we were made, to dust we will return” (Genesis 3:19). In this we are all equal, and all in need of the grace of Jesus Christ. It’s the appropriate way to start the Lenten season.
