Lent 2025

Listen!

This Lent we will quiet things down and heighten our attention to the “still, small voice” of God.   Listening through prayer as well as meditation on holy texts is an ancient Lenten practice.

Based on the text from 1 Kings about Elijah taking an extended rest and restoration, we too will be invited to find our own “caves” to meet and listen for God’s speaking. Each week, we will consider a different prayer practice, and our worship will conclude with Holy Communion, and simple prayer stations, including our offering as prayer.  There will be a great deal less talking, and a great deal more time to listen.  The style of worship will be more reflective, slower paced, and with freedom to move about.  If you are uncomfortable moving about in the sanctuary, or prefer to remain seated some Sundays, there will be worship guides with a finger tracing labyrinth, and reflection journals to use while you remain in your pew seat.  Try one or two different prayer stations each week or do them all every week.  We will not formally “end” the worship time as much as “exit” taking our listening worship back into our everyday lives. So, be prepared for a Taizé type of contemplative worship as you enter the sanctuary in quiet reverence. Come and rest, come and LISTEN.
